Man in turban The first drawing on the left is one of the oldest I have kept, drawn when I was 15. It nicely illustrates the aid I used then to accurately copy from photographs (a Teachers Whiskey advert in this case). The grid lines provide a frame of reference for drawing the lines of the face. In this drawing, I forgot to erase them as I drew.   Sources of drawings Whilst I also draw non-portraits, including still-lifes, part of the fun of portrait drawing is the search for suitable photographs. As can be seen, most are of famous people from movie books. And occasionally, from odd sources. The man reading the paper is from a New Scientist article.   Juliane Michelle, American film starlet I am indebted to an American web site for the photograph of Julianne. The owner of the site sent a disk from America containing the drawing image. His site contains a superb selection of movie star photographs :      www.classicmoviekids.com Julianne was 7 in the drawing, and has appeared in Roxanne and a number of other TV programmes.
